BANG-BANG CONTROL

Bang-bang control is the feedback controller that switches abruptly between two states.

After buying out almost everything at a rocket scientist’s estate sale, I started printing some of my photos directly on top of one of his old notebook diagrams from the University of Michigan to make a zine for a friend.

The cool natural halftone pattern achieved by printing on top of the old paper was intriguing, so I went back to the sale the next day and bought up all his notebooks from college to professional life.

All pieces in this collection are shot on medium format slide film using my Mamiya RZ67 camera. This allowed the macro focus on product photography, pulling out all the gritty detail of each photographed item. I then printed my photographs directly on the pages of his notebook to create two focal states for the viewer: The drawing and notes of a rocket scientist and the scale and detail of product photography.
